This intervention is a tongue in cheek grievance directed towards the Wal-Mart profit-funded Crystal Bridges Museum, and its ‘American Spirit” exhibit.
Yet, the audiences for this piece are both folks who shop at Wal-Mart in Española, New Mexico as well as the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, a Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, spearheaded by Alice Walton, the daughter of Wal-Mart founder, Sam Walton, and the Walton Family Foundation.
I selected premiere pieces from the Museums collection and inserted either Wal-Mart Shopping Centers as in the 19th Century Landscapes or Wal-Mart memorabilia as in the portrait paintings.
This project will be completed by sending this series of cards to The Crystal Bridges Museum to be considered for sale in the museum’s gift shop.
